Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School is thrilled to announce the hiring of Travis Taylor as the new Boys Basketball Head Coach. Coach Taylor brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success to our basketball program, having been recognized as the Jr. NBA Coach of the Year with the Dallas Mavericks and serving as their Director of Youth Basketball.
With a passion for the game and a dedication to developing young talent, Coach Taylor has made a significant impact on the basketball community. His career includes a successful 12-year tenure as a professional basketball player, during which he competed in 11 countries and overcame numerous challenges, gaining invaluable experience at the highest levels of the sport. This experience has shaped his coaching philosophy and provided him with a deep understanding of the obstacles and opportunities athletes face.
In addition to his coaching credentials, Coach Taylor is also a basketball scout, player development trainer, and the author of the inspiring book, Change Your Mind, Change Your Life. Through his book, he shares powerful insights and strategies for personal growth and mindset transformation, aiming to empower individuals to unlock their full potential.
During the time of his playing career in Europe, Coach Taylor played under the name Muhammad Shahbaz and practiced the Muslim faith. Upon returning to the United States, he re-embraced the Christian faith of his family and childhood, a faith that continues to serve as the foundation of his life and work. He values personal effort and a transformed mind in facing whatever setbacks prevent an athlete from achieving excellence. Additionally, Coach Taylor is a devoted father to his daughter, Yuri.
Coach Taylor shared his excitement about joining Bishop Reicher:
“I am thrilled to be a part of this program and Bishop Reicher, where I see endless potential for growth and success. My vision is to instill a culture of hard work, teamwork, and excellence both on and off the court. I believe that by fostering a supportive and competitive environment, we can develop not only skilled athletes but also well-rounded young men and women whose integrity and character will bring strength to our community. Together, we will strive for excellence and build a legacy that will be remembered for years to come"
Edwin Weathersby II, Athletic Director at Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School, expressed his enthusiasm for our new hire:
“I’m excited to welcome Coach Taylor to Bishop Reicher as our next Boys Basketball Head Coach. At the outset of our search, our intent was to discover the best leader for our basketball program, staff and community. During our search, I personally spoke with an NBA executive and a Division-1 college basketball coach at a university in the Big 12 conference who both raved about Coach Taylor’s basketball coaching prowess and his ability to develop players, yet offered even higher praise about him as a person, leader, and a man of integrity and high moral character. He’s also a former professional player, which will add a new dimension to our program since he’ll be able to relate to our players firsthand. I believe Coach Taylor will move our program forward in the best manner and Cougar Basketball’s future is bright with him now at the helm”
Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School looks forward to an exciting new chapter in its basketball program under the leadership of Coach Taylor and the opportunity to invite him to accompany us on our common journey of faith. With his expertise, vision, and commitment to excellence, the future of Cougar Basketball is indeed bright.
