After an exhaustive search, an evaluation of countless resumes, and interviews with several coaching candidates over the last six weeks held by BLR’s Athletic Director, Mr. Edwin Weathersby II, I am pleased to inform you that BLR has a new varsity head football coach for the 2024 fall season.
Coach Nick York joins Bishop Louis Reicher full-time in January from Pittsburg (TX) High School, where he has served as Offensive Coordinator and high school history teacher. Coach York has also served as an assistant coach at several very successful Texas high school programs at Gilmer, Celina, Paul Pewitt, and Daingerfield, coaching in two state championship games in that time. He was a featured speaker at the Glazier Football Coaches Clinic in Durant, Oklahoma, in 2020. Coach York graduated from Gilmer High School in 2004, where he played for current UTSA Head Coach Jeff Traylor. He then earned his B.S. in Secondary Education at Oklahoma State University, working as support staff in OSU’s football program. Nick is married to Jennifer York, and they have two children, Grainger (9) and Georgia (6).
Coach York is also accepting the administrative position of Coordinator of Family and Student Engagement, where he will enhance the experience of prospective families during admissions and enrollment. Once enrolled, he will work to ensure each new family is successfully integrated into the school community, especially in academic and spiritual goals.
Coach York and his wife Jennifer - both volunteer religious education teachers in their home parish in Pittsburgh (TX) - look forward to continuing their spiritual journeys with their children at St. Louis Parish and at BLR.
Coach York expresses his enthusiasm, "I am excited and honored to be the next head football coach at Bishop Reicher. I look forward to having a positive impact on not only the football program, but the school and community as a whole. I am also excited to support prospective students and their families as they work through our admissions process. I want to thank the Athletic Director, Mr. Weathersby, Head of School, Dr. Pennell, and Fr. Ryan Higdon for entrusting me with this opportunity and responsibility. It's time to RISE!"
"We're excited to have Coach York onboard leading our Football program,” says our AD, Mr. Weathersby. “Our search process was about getting the best possible coach for our boys and a person who can give us support in many other support areas. There were many qualities we were looking for in a professional such as Nick, and he checked all the boxes.” “He and I have spent a substantial amount of hours talking about his vision for the program,” says Mr. Weathersby, and “I am excited to see that vision unfold. The more people we spoke to about him as a football coach, leader, educator, and person, the clearer it became that he was the right person for the job. I am thrilled to begin work with him and would like to welcome his wife Jenn, son Grainger, and daughter Georgia to the Cougar community!"
I invite the entire school community to join me in welcoming Coach York and his family to the Cougar Nation and to support him in his efforts to build a football program that reflects the values and spirit of Bishop Louis Reicher Catholic School.
Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for Bishop Reicher and our athletics!
Sincerely, in Christ,
Michael E. Pennell, M.A., Ph.D.
